LinkUs: More COTA, More Sidewalks, More Options
Thanks to everyone who was able to attend the Building Worthington’s Future education session on LinkUs that was held last Wednesday, June 12th.
In case you missed it, the event was well attended. Patrick Harris (Vice President of External Relations @ COTA) presented the details of the upcoming LinkUs program that will be on the ballot this November. This will be a 0.75% sales tax that will go before voters this fall in Franklin County and parts of Delaware, Fairfield, Union, and Licking counties that are within the City of Columbus. If approved by voters, the ballot measure would provide an estimated $6 billion in new revenue to support LinkUS. Patrick Harris explained that LinkUS plans would bring 45% more COTA service. It would also include new and improved sidewalks, bike lanes, and crosswalks. There would be construction of COTA Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line and more micro-transit options connected to bus stations. The first lines would be east-west connections off Broad Street.
Jonathan Miller from MORPC accompanied Patrick Harris to the event. In addition, the Council President (Rachael Dorothy) and Rebecca Hermann attended the event.
Building Worthington’s Future is excited about the project and will be encouraging our community to support the ballot initiative this Fall. We are also hopeful that the passing might include the development of the Worthington Mile that links Wilson Bridge Road to Downtown Worthington. Recently, the City of Worthington submitted the design to MORPC for approval for the second time.
You can review the animations from the event used by Patrick Harris below. Building Worthington's Future engaged members will be receiving the monthly newsletter with the LinkUs presentation included. Request a copy of the presentation here.
This Fall, let’s support this very important initiative.
