July Highlights & August Event

I cannot believe how fast this summer has been going. Becky & I just got back from 4 days of hiking in the mountains of Colorado where we visited the Loveland Pass and the Continental Divide. Very breathtaking views. After the July 12th Building Worthington’s Future’s education session on LinkUs that we hosted, a reporter from the Worthington Spoltlight newspaper contacted me to learn more about the LinkUS presentation. After talking to them, I recommended they reach out to numerous public officials for comments. In the July edition of the Worthington Spotlight, they ran a story about the program. As I stated in my last communication, Building Worthington’s Future is excited about the project and will be encouraging our community to support the ballot initiative this Fall.

Our next Building Worthington’s Future Engaged Member meeting will be on Wednesday, August 14th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The speaker will be Alex Sauersmith from the City Columbus who will be giving their “Zone-in” presentation on the new zoning standards the City

of Columbus has adopted. We are still trying to determine the location of the event. As we get closer to the date, we will send out an invitation. We plan to invite officials from the City of Worthington, including Council, MPC/ARB, and Bike & Pedestrian members.

The Executive Committee has been keeping up with numerous initiatives within the City of Worthington. Last Monday’s Worthington’s City Council took a number of actions that will positively impact the City including:

1. Unanimously approving the adoption of the Northeast Corridor Plan. This study will guide repositioning the Northeast Gateway (Huntley Road, Proprietors Road, and Lakeview Plaza) corridors within the City of Worthington limits. The goal of this study is to make this marketplace more attractive and competitive in the region. The plan will be a living document for day-to-day planning and budgetary guidance. Our own Matt Gregory was on the Taskforce of that commission.

2. Approved the commissioning of the new comprehensive master plan which will be an 18 month process.

3. Approved with a 5-1 vote that a new swimming pool levy be put on the ballot this November.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone in August at the next Building Worthington’s Future Engaged Member meeting. If there are any issues that come up, please feel free to contact me at (614) 332-9482 cell or email me at sgreen1347@gmail.com.

Thanks again for all your support!

-Scott Green, BWF President
